Search Engine Keyword: What Role Does Your Keyword Play?

Search engine friendly keywords are very important in helping your articles, blogs or websites rank well with the search engines. Knowing the importance of keywords however is not enough to help you dominate the search engines. You will need to know how to choose your keywords, how often to use your keywords and what role your keyword plays in the body of your text.

Choosing your keywords is as easy as getting your hands on the right keyword selector tool. There are several free keyword tools on the internet that will help you get started with your keyword selection. SEO Book has as free version of their keyword tool that is good enough for someone new to internet marketing. Once you get a little more advance, you can upgrade to a tool like SEO Elite which has a with a wider keyword selection.

Once you have selected your keywords the next step is to incorporate your keywords in the body of your content. The rule of thumb is to use your words in approximately 3 to 7 percent of the content. The key to making your article flow and not sound repetitive is to use different variations of your keyword phrase. You definitely do not want to create an article that is not readable because your keyword is to repetitious.

Another key element in your keyword placement in the search engines is the role you choose for your top paying keywords. You will need to choose which keywords you will be focusing on in your article. You do not want to target too many words in your content. Choosing too many terms will confuse the search engine as to what keywords you are trying to target. You need to focus on no more than two keywords per article.

If you are using your keywords in a blog or article to link to your main site, then your keyword has to play the role of an anchored text to your website. When you receive several anchored text links to your site using your top keywords it increases your keyword popularity for that particular website. The more inbound links you receive with your top paying keywords as anchored text, the higher you will rank in the search engines for that keyword.

Last but definitely not least, the most important aspect of keyword SEO is validating the strength of your keywords. SEO Elite has a keyword analyzer that will provide you with stats on how many searches are produced for your keyword of choice. You can also find out how many competing websites are using that same keyword by searching your keyword in parenthesis. Failure to validate your keywords will result in ranking high for keywords that are irrelevant.

Hey Sally…It is better to target no more than two keywords per page to make your keywords stand out. As far as the percentage of keywords..you probably want to keep it somewhere between 3 to 7 percent. Going over the 7 percent margin will make it look like keyword stuffing..and the serp’s do not like that.
